Got a lot done

Though very little was done around the house itself, today was a productive day. Kat helped me with laundry by helping me take clothes out of the dryer, helping me carry the basket of clean clothes into the room where they wait to be sorted, then holding open the door while I put the wet clothes into the dryer.

Afterwards, she helped me with dishes. I would rinse them and she would put them into the dishwasher (with some gentle guidance from me). After that, I did numbers with the children. Matthew can count to ten! Kat can, for the most part, count to twenty. After numbers, we did phonics. Kat can read more than she lets on, she just gets so distracted by other things. I need to figure out how to do this better. When we finished with phonics (probably did those for a good thirty minutes), we sang some songs, then I read a little bit. By that time, it was getting close to lunch. I had them do a little free play while I vegged for a few minutes. Then I made them fish sticks and grilled some chicken for Kurt to take to work for lunches this week. The children had free play after lunch, then I put them down for an afternoon nap.

During nap time, I went over the themes for the homeschooling coop that I'm going to be in this coming fall. I'm doing the story time and art for the preschoolers as well as helping the main teacher with other activites for that age group. I will have both Kat and Matthew in my class. Matthew might go to the nursery if he's disruptive. Anyway, we meet once a week. The main teacher set up themes and I spent a good portion looking up children's books, reading reviews, and writing down several titles and authors for each theme. When I get a list for the whole year, I'll be heading to the library to actually read them, then figure out what sort of arts and crafts we can do that will go along with the stories we read. I got through half the year. It's a good thing we only meet once a week! *G*

After I finished the first half of the year, I took the time to update the coop's website at dentonclassical.org. There were a LOT of changes to make! Once that was done, I had to call the lady in charge of Faithworks (a ministry at my church where we make quilts for the Crisis Pregnancy center in the closest city to us) because there was a conflict with some Sunday School Teacher training. Got that rescheduled and sent a note to the Office Manager of our church. I finished all this about ten minutes ago. Whee!

After nap, probably a lot more reading. I started Kipling's "The Jungle Book" and am reading it out loud to the children in between all the picture books. After that...we'll see. Maybe more phonics. I really want her to get a good base for reading early on.

I will be doing one last update to Matthew's list, though it might be another month before I actually update this LJ with that! *G*
